Introduction Posts Hello from Albuquerque, New Mexico

I find it very interesting how I arrived at this forum. I was helping a friend understand a document from Lynn Terry on backlinks and decided to investigate a reference to Link Wheels. Before long I found Linus Rylander, a 15 year old kid from Sweden who said he was a moderator here. I downloaded his document about Link Wheels and then came over here to take a look. I purchased the NicheChopper Power Program and here I am.

I have been in the software development business for over four decades, primarily in automatic test equipment, cad/cam, & factory automation fields. During the last 15 years I have had my own software business with a sophisticated database product in a niche medical field working with community based organizations. This hasn't really provided the compensation I have been looking for, so I decided to branch out into Internet businesses.

This new endeavor has required a lot of new learning, both in marketing and the Internet. Although I have always utilized the Internet I had never built any sites. So what type of business did I want to pursue? I decided to focus on affiliate products, but was having a hard time deciding where to begin. After a lot of study I finally realized that I needed to just jump in and build a website and work through the steps one at a time.

My first attempt was to do a personal site using NetObjects Fusion for the primary site and WordPress for the blog. It didn't take me long to realize that I was making things too difficult. I scrapped that site and started over using only WordPress. Next I picked an affiliate product in the travel industry, not so much as a result of doing proper research, but in response to an opportunity that came my way. I decided that this was a good test to finally learn how to put all the pieces together. I also have MS Expression Web 3 that I can use as needed.

This site, http://DreamStyleVacations4You.com, has truely been a learning experience. I started with a free theme and then upgraded to a paid theme and then another paid theme. I found that I could get free articles from Unique Article Wizard that I could then edit and post. Then I started adding photos and YouTube videos to posts. Along the way I have learned a lot about various plugins and user tracking. I put together all the proper legal documents. I have integrated AWeber, but need to do a lot more work with it as soon as I finish a really good ebook to offer as an incentive for people to leave their email.

One of the things that has really been facinating with this site is the traffic and how people are getting to the site. I am using the All in One SEO Pack to add appropriate keywords to each post and I can see the results by looking at the daily activity with the WassUp plugin. There is a lot more I could say about what I have learned with this site.

So where does this leave me? As soon as I finish the free ebook I will be adding relevant affiliate products from ClickBank and Commission Junction where I have accounts. Then I want to pick some new affiliate niches to build sites around that can help me really start generating revenue. I look forward to fully participating in this forum. It looks like this post is long enough for starters!

    Welcome!

jumping right in, you don't have to wait to offer an ebook, for people to give out their email to you.. Just offer your top ten tips to traveling when in Paradise, until you complete the ebook

With that said, welcome aboard! There are plenty of brilliant minds on this forum. I posted a post recently about wordpress pluggins here, which may benefit you...

    Cool story bro.

Even though it sounds like you've come a loooooong way, and you have, I think once you start getting into the deeper content here you'll realize that most things can be outsourced (I know, to a software engineer outsourcing programming or tech needs is like me outsourcing design work), and the learning curve goes MUCH farther past sticking aff links in free guides.

Take a few days and do at least the first few weeks curriculum in the 30 day startup course >> You'll see what's what in our world really quickly and be able to grow/make your next steps to profit easier.

    Oh and welcome!

Thanks for your welcome. Good advice. I fully intend to outsource many things, but I decided that I wanted to go through most of the steps myself to see how everything fits together even though it might take me longer to get started. This marketing business is definitely a different mind set than being a senior software developer!

By the way, can you elaborate on what the "Read the Rules' link was supposed to mean? I did read the rules before posting but not sure what you are implying. -- Thanks.

Sysop, looks like I clicked on the wrong button to reply to your comments. See my reply earlier. Takes a little getting used to this system.

It's ok, you'll learn the ropes quickly.

The link to the rules will be below this reply as well.

    Just kidding. But LOL!!

It's called a forum signature, it shows up in all the posts I make, everyone has one, pretty soon you will too, and hopefully it will be something cool not just marketing spam << Hidden message meaning watch what you click around here in people's signatures. We do our best to keep it legit but can't always catch stuff so tread carefully at first.

    Cheers.
