Default A bit of an eye opener to me

A couple of months ago I started a blog under a pseudonym whose sole purpose was for me to rant and review all of the garbage products that are being sold on DP and the Warrior forum and elsewhere (I can't help it I just cant stop looking for a "magic bullet"). just for the hell of it I threw a hostgator affiliate banner on it.

You know what, that site got over 6000 unique hits last month with absolutely no marketing for it. No SEO, I only have the link on one forum, no articles or promotion of any kind. The only reason I checked the stats was because I got paid from hostgator for three sales.

I guess it is time to start promoting it. It kind of boggled my mind since I did not get that much traffic on some of the sites I have been working hard to promote.

Not only that but I have been getting PMs on that forum asking me to add a page for this and a page for that etc.

The more I learn about this business, the more confused I get.

I think that could be a lessen learned without having to pay for it. (Rinse and Repeat) and think about listing "good" products that you recoment as compared to the "crap".

MMmmmm... I can see the lumber truck in my minds eye, traveling in Arizona, to a remote place where you
are waiting with your tools at the entrance of your property.

You are at the well deserved receiving end off your own Carma. ..Congrats man, you deserve it.

PS: Blogs is where it's at at the moment ad G**gle loves WP and will rate it fast.

I wouldn't change the way you promoted it... why change it if its working?

A sudden change in the type of promotion could actually harm its progress. Just keep doing what you are doing... you are building up a following who are feeding you information on what they want reviewed.

The only way I'd describe your marketing effort for that site is:

    Awesome.

Now instead of "keep doing what you're doing", start targeting them people.

    Stick up a pop-over

    "SCAM ALERT

As I review these products daily, I'll be able to send you WARNINGS about the ones you SHOULD NOT WASTE your hard-earned cash on! OPT IN NOW!"

Put up a section on the blog, "Products That Are Actually WORTH Their Salt", and update it 1-2 a month MAX with a new product.

The key here is to do EXACTLY what you're doing... but targeting people with it.
Cool signature pending = I'm waiting for someone to say something stupid so I can quote it.

This also proves to me that CONTENT IS KING, if you write what people want to read then no amount of links will make a difference!

WP blogs do get indexed quick and Google seems to like the structure.

Your right. It is a word press themed blog on my own domain. I think I will joina few more forums with that blog in the signature.

other than that maybe I will be keeping my efforts to what has worked. I think I will add some features as was suggested here and an opt in.

It just surprised me a bit that I am getting traffic where I am not expecting it and many other sites that I am doing a lot of work on have only gotten a dozen or so hits last month.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

You built something that people want to read about - without having to pay you to hear your views (reviews).

Adding an opt-in and building a list is a good way to work with the momentum - just don't compromise your position by ever offering junk stuff that you do not get any value from yourself. This will help build trust with your readership and will reward you in the future.
