To my knowledge the only problem was using the specific mafia wars name to promote the products, using just online mafia games is fine!
I expect OP can expand further on this

These products never really did it for me, personally I wouldn't even consider paying for a guide.
What's the conversion like though? I've got a site, maybe I should get on top of that?
