Success Story Woohoo - Finally ordered 20MB Broadband!

I have been struggling on with crap service from my ISP, supposed to get 2MB but not sure I have ever got it (currently just 300kb!)

I have just ordered 20MB via fibre which should be a bit faster! Silly bit is, it costs about the same as the crap BB I have been getting from BT!

Looking forward to this, and install is this Saturday, that is quick!

Anyone in the UK got 20MB from Virgin? What are you experiencing on average?

You'll not find I tutorial anywhere on the Internet, but I use to have connections through a friend who knew a REAL hardware hacker. He had a mod chip you welded or something into the modem. That gave mod gave you access to enter any mac address for the modem NOT the PC itself. Comcast provides service via mac so it was free extremely highspeed internet that was not traceable. Good luck with your fast internet!

Virgin has two types of broadband: ADSL and Cable.

If you are going for Virgin, then you should take cable broadband, because if you need ADSL, then there are tons of other better deals around.

I won't compare ADSL and Cable here, because it's quite long story, but overall cable broadband wins.

I didn't know about this when I subscribed to BE Broadband (24mb download - £18/month), otherwise I would go for Virgin cable. However, I am really happy with my service. Yes, I had few connection problems during the year that I am a member, but nothing major. (knock wood).

    They are really great.

My recommendation would be, either Be Broadband or Virgin Media Cable Broadband

Man, I'm getting royally screwed on the other side of the pond. I pay ~$35/mo for 6mb down and 1mb up.

£10/month for the 20MB cable broadband for first 6 months and then £20/month after.

Not sure what the upload is, don't think it is as much as 1mb?

The pricing varies depending on your location. I know that it is extremely true for the Uk and the US; especialy for remote places, it gets you less bang for your buck.

Yeah, people here have no sense. When I want to watch a movie online I turn the PC on at lunch time and buffer an entire movie in minutes then I can watch it at night.

Then we have the non-tech people. Or people with no commonsense. 10pm at night and they are trying to watch TV online. Some people need to learn about bandwidth. Theres like 600 students living here. 300 people online at night i reckon. Then they wonder why its slow.

Holy wow! I wonder what your upload is though. I work for a company here in the States and they're paying about US$1600/mo for a 10Mbps line. Of course, the upload is 10Mbps too, but it boggles my mind that you're getting that for less than $100/mo. I'm officially jealous!

Yah, but it's a business only service, so they get to charge a *lot* more! Time Warner Cable (Business) for anyone interested. It's a 10x10 service that is run over fiber. Comes in nice and simply over an Ethernet connection to your computer/router. They supply the required equipment to convert from fiber to Ethernet.
